Information, Communications and Technology Workshops in 2011 and 2012

The Eastern Region Infrastructure Network (ERIN) through its Big Lottery funded project FERI (Front Line Engagement through Infrastructure) are offering rural voluntary and community groups FREE training workshops on ICT.
 
Each of the workshops on offer is designed to enable and empower VCS community groups in the eastern region to make better use of ICT and improve efficiency and the ability to engage with service users, funders and stakeholders, volunteers, etc., more effectively.The workshops;
 
SOCIAL MEDIA Useful Tool or Just a Fad?
Looks at the rise of WEB2.0/Social Media/New Media technologies and applications and how these can be used to assist the VCS in its work particularly in campaigning and raising awareness, but also as additional tools to help it work SMARTER not harder.
 
WEBSITES The website workshop explores how to ensure your current or new website has web presence, makes the right impression and portrays the correct image to your clients. The workshop is designed to give you the guidance, tips and sign posting on how to set a clear plan for your website.
 
CLOUD COMPUTING Cloud Control
In the future all the information and applications we use will be accessed through the internet on any device, from anywhere, thanks to Cloud Computing. But what exactly is The Cloud and how can it make us more effective and efficient? This workshops looks at the basics of what it is and some of the applications available and how they can benefit VCO’s.
 
Duration Each workshop will be a session of approximately 2 to 3 hours and start at 10am.

COVER and i-Trust - DIGITAL SWITCHOVER IN HERTFORDSHIRE AND ESSEX

LONDON DIGITAL TV SWITCHOVER IN HERTS AND ESSEX
COVER has been successful in winning the Essex and South Hertfordshire part of the London Digital Switchover contract. They have already been involved in the Anglia Digital Switchover, and are now looking for organisations to work with them on the London Switchover.
 
COVER are looking for organisations to disseminate information and get involved in delivering information and advice about the digital switchover to stakeholders (organisations) and end users (members of the public) that work with or fall in to one or more of the target groups:
 
  • Older People
  • People who are socially isolated
  • People with sensory, mobility or dexterity impairments
  • People who have mental health conditions
  • People with English as a second language (an emphasis has been put on this group)
  • People with learning difficulties
     
    The area being targeted now is for the following transmitter.

    FREE ICT Training in the workplace for Community and Voluntary Sector organisations

    Delivered by I –Trust and funded by The Big Lottery Fund and Cambridgeshire United to offer Voluntary and CommunityOrganisations throughout Cambridgeshire an opportunity for ICT in their own workplace
     
    A qualified ICT trainer will work with staff to find more effective ways to carry out every day tasks, answer questions about various ICT problems/issues and give general advice and guidance about the programmes you use. So whether it's brushing up on your spreadsheet skills, creating a powerful presentation, learning how to mail-merge or learning how to use email more effectively, a surgery will give you a unique opportunity to enhance existing and gain new skills, without having to leave your desk!

    Colchester Indian Women's Society Event

    Colchester Indian Women's Society (Sakhi Sang) are hosting a Dance and Dinner on Saturday 18th February 2012, at 7.30pm - 11.00pm at Alderman Blaxill School, Paxman Avenue, Colchester, Essex CO2 9DQ.
     
    This promises to be a fun filled evening and include music and authentic Indian cuisine.
     
    Tickets are £17.50 per person, £12 for children under 10 years old.
     

    All profits will be shared between a children’s charity and the Hindu Cultural Heritage Centre (charity no 1128878)

    Commissioning for Equalities Training Day, 28 February 2012, London

    Are you an equalities* organisation that wants to find out more about delivering public services?

    The training will take place at NCVO, Regent's Wharf, 8 All Saints Street, London N1 9RL. From 10.00am - 4.00pm and lunch will be provided.
     
    This practical training will help you to connect with the new commissioning environment and improve your organisation's chance of winning government contracts to deliver health and social care services. Based on NCB's well-received Successful Commissioning training and in response to a recent FaithAction survey of equalities organisations NCB has developed this training to be topical, practical and of relevance to equalities organisations.
     
    Why attend?
    If you have little to no experience of successful commissioning or winning bids then this training is for you.
    The training offers:
  • A practical understanding of what commissioning is.
  • The context and concepts of the health and social care commissioning process.
  • Practical advice on how to complete a tender with examples of good and bad answers.
  • Information about the new commissioning environment, including how to counterbalance any potentially negative impacts brought about by the changes.
  • Information about what health commissioners are looking for.
  • Information and practical tools to help you become commission ready.
    Who should attend?
    This training is aimed at children, young people and families equalities organisations and is available at a subsidised cost of £50.
    What is meant by ‘equalities’*?Organisations who work on one or more of the following areas: religion/belief, race, sex, disability, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, marriage and civil partnership and age.

    A free* conference organised by the East of England Faiths Council and Peterborough City Council
    How can faith groups plan for emergencies in their own organisations and in the wider world?
    How they can contribute in their own locality to meeting the needs raised by natural and other disasters and emergencies?
    How can the public sector work most effectively with faith groups to build resilience locally and across boundaries?

    Study Day: TACKLING POVERTY TOGETHER

    This Study Day will be led jointly by Revd Andrew Coleby, our Social Responsibility Officer and members of the Church Urban Fund. This day follows the St Albans and Hertford Archdeaconries study day and will make materials from that occasion available to Bedfordshire clergy and lay leaders. It will also provide fresh resources and ideas for tackling poverty and transforming communities.

    Community Development Foundation: After the Cuts campaign

    After the Cuts campaign – Get Involved! How are YOU surviving #afterthecuts?
    CDF is running a campaign, launched in May 2011 to highlight the experience of community groups struggling to survive after the cuts and continue delivering service and to explore how groups can make better use of social enterprise to generate income.
    It includes an online debate to help community groups link up and share ideas about how to survive the reality of fewer resources and increased competition for funding.

    Sikh Education Services - throughout the region

    Harkirat Singh is a CRB checked Sikh Education Officer from Northampton, who has been hosting school visits to the local Gurdwara for many yearsand is now offering, if it is not possible for the school to visit the Gurdwara, to run Sikh Education Workshops in schools throughout the region. He will lead assemblies and discuss the Sikh Way of Life.
     
    Recent workshop requests have included

  • Turban tying demonstrations
  • The 5 K's
  • Harmonium musical workshops
  • Question-time type sessions
  • A virtual tour of the Gurdwara
  • Special Needs Schools have also been catered by incorporating sensory based activities and traditional snack tasting sessions!
     
    A suggested contribution towards costs is £195 for a full day event, but Harkirat is happy to discuss this with each school, and tailor the visit to meet the schools needs. If two nearby schools, for example, wish to share the resource for a half day each, then this can be agreed.
