Searching the Faiths Base

You can search for organisations in the Faiths Base by specifying part of their Name, Town/City or Local Authority (notionally County). You can also search for organisations by Faith Tradition or by a specific Activity.

You can use any combination of the these parameters to search the Faiths Base.

The text-based searches, i.e. for Organisation Name, Town/City or Local Authority, are database text searches which means the search looks for words in the database which match the text you have entered.

For example, if you search Organisation Name for "peter" then all organisations whose names include "peter" will be returned, e.g.
Mary Immaculate and St Peter Catholic Church
and
Peterborough Community Church

The text-based searches be used in one of three modes. These modes only differ when the text you enter contains more than one word.

For example, if you search Organisation Name for "peter paul" then
Exact mode will return nothing as no organisations have "peter paul" as part of their name;
Any mode will return names which include peter or paul, e.g. St Peters and Daughters of Charity (of St Vincent de Paul);
All mode will return names which include both peter and paul, e.g. Saints Peter and Paul Church

Note, the text searches treat UPPER and lower case letters the same. Searching for "pEtEr" will find "Peter"!
